Our comprehensive and sensitive Legionella swab test is designed for testing surfaces and biofilm. The process involves collecting a sample through swabbing areas where biofilm accumulates e.g. shower heads, taps, storage tanks, pipework and the water edge of pools or hot tubs.
Biofilm is the common habitat
for Legionella pneumophila. This slimy substance protects this
bacterium from heat or chemical treatments.
This method is highly recommended for
evaluating surfaces in environments such as cooling towers, water tanks, sinks,
showers, hot tubs, misters, sprinklers, air washers, and humidifiers, among
others.
The test detects all Legionella
pneumophila serogroups 1-15 and uses the well-established Lateral Flow
Immunochromatographic Assay (LFICA) technology (same technology used in
Covid-19). In a remarkable innovation, the test is a
three-line test which isolates the bacteria and distinctly identifies the
presence of serogroup 1 on one test line and 2-15 on another.
This information enables the user to
identify and assess the level of Legionella pneumophila risk
depending on which serogroup is present in the sample, supporting both
reporting processes and remedial action decision making.
This swab test is highly sensitive
and can detect Legionella pneumophila levels of 200 CFU per
swabbed area.
VALIDITY OF THE PRO TEST
HIGH SENSITIVITY AND SPECIFICITY:
The PRO Lateral Flow Test Kit
successfully detects Legionella pneumophila serogroups 1-15
with high sensitivity.
VERSATILE TEST CONDITIONS:
Displays robustness under varying
conditions without compromising results.
NO CROSS-REACTIVITY:
Demonstrates no interference from other
common waterborne bacteria or non-pneumophila species of Legionella.
TOLERANCE TO WATER CONDITIONS:
Performs reliably even in hard water and high alkalinity conditions.
